Robyn makes her long-awaited return with “Dopamine,” her first solo music since 2018’s Honey. The propulsive electro-pop observe, which was co-written by Taio Cruz, reunites the Swedish singer with longtime collaborator Klas Åhlund, who co-produced Robyn’s “Name Your Girlfriend” and “Be Mine!,” amongst many others.
“Dopamine” doesn’t stray too removed from the established template and themes of these previous songs. “I do know it’s simply dopamine, however it feels so bizarre to me/I’m tripping on our chemistry/It’s firing up inside me,” Robyn sings atop a pulsing beat, swirling arpeggios, and a distorted vocal pattern that’s employed like a synth bass all through.
Directed by Marili Andre, the performance-driven music video for “Dopamine” sees Robyn dancing amid a bathe of sparks and, in the end, precise water. The clip briefly options Robyn’s three-year-old son, Tyko.
